Rio 2016 Olympic Torch
As in all editions of the games, the International Olympic Committee held a competition to choose the Torch for the 2016 edition. The following briefing was sent to selected offices and professionals: to develop an iconic, Brazilian, modern torch for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Our proposal was based on elements that directly reference Rio de Janeiro, such as the curves of Sugarloaf Mountain in the side profile.
We included internal lighting, visible through openings in the aluminum structure, and from the rear, so that the torch would always be highly visible, even at night or in other challenging visual conditions. The Paralympic Games version maintained the same concepts, only changing the colors to fit the event's identity.
The project made it to the top 12 finalists, being exhibited at the headquarters of the Brazilian Olympic Committee in Rio de Janeiro for several weeks at the end of 2014, until the winner was announced.
